ADULT CONFERENCE IN OHIO
JUNE 15-19, 2009
Theme- Our Faith: From Roots to Fruits to Seeds (Disciples Past, Present & Future)
The Planning Team of the 2009 Adult Conference in Ohio warmly welcomes you to our web site. Our conference is June 15-19, 2009 at Northwest Christian Church, 1340 Fishinger Road, Columbus, OH 43221. It begins with registration from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15 and ends on Friday, June 19 at about 1:30 p.m.
For information about the conference and to get an application, please click on Camp Christian (above), then on Adult Conference. The handout, AC INFO & FACTS, has information on how to register for the conference and a list of nearby hotels. We have Adult Conference scholarships for those who need financial assistance. We recognize this is a rough year financially for many. We have scholarship money for times like these. Contact Bob Thompson (see below) for confidential assistance. Also, check your local church to see if they offer scholarships. Many do.
The 2009 conference theme is all about Our Faith: From Roots to Fruits to Seeds (Disciples Past, Present & Future). We will see glimpses of our history to help us connect with the roots of our young movement and Alexander Campbell. We will then hear the story of what happened in the years that followed. Each day we will learn new ways to nurture our own faith and to be fruitful in our study and discussion sessions. By the time we leave the conference and return to our churches, we hope to have new seeds to sow as we move into the future.
We are pleased to announce that Rev. Heather Schimmel of the Norwood Christian Church in Cincinnati is our Vesper speaker. The Rev. Dr. William Paulsell, Lexington Theological Seminary (retired) is giving a daily historical presentation on “Themes in Disciple History,†and he will lead two Bible study sessions.
The highlight of the week for many is our beautiful Consecration service on Thursday evening. Rev. Schimmel will bring the message and Charlotte Bougher, our choir director, is planning the service and leading the choir.
Conferees may choose two classes each morning. Tuesday afternoon’s forum is Spiritual Direction, Is That For Me? Wednesday afternoon’s forum is a web cam tour of the Campbell Mansion in Bethany, WVA with tour director Felicity Ruggiero, Curator, Historic Bethany.
Every day is jam-packed with worship, singing, classes, inspired preaching, Bible study, lay leader led devotions, fantastic music and an outstanding choir, loads of fun and so much more. The food is so good, the fellowship is really great and the friendships are priceless. Ask any conferee and they’ll say, “Once you’ve come, you’ll never want to miss.†If you are new to the conference, that won’t last long. You will quickly become a part of the conference.
