Evaluations from this year's conference were very positive. The planning committee reviews these and uses them to plan for the following year. We try to implement some of the suggestions as we plan for the next year.
Something new this year was a series of forums on World Religions designed by the Rev. Kerry Reed. In addition to guest speakers who came to us, each day's forum included a trip to their place of worship. This year we covered the Abrahamic faith traditions of Greek Orthodoxy, Judaism and Islam. The day we studied Islam our guest was a pediatrician on family leave who serves in a voluntary capacity as the President of the Council on American- Islam Relations for Ohio. While their beliefs differ in many ways from Christianity, they bear little resemblance to Muslims portrayed in the media.
We also had a chaplain available this year. Ken Coy served in this capacity and several conferees made appointments to talk with him. We hope to offer this opportunity again next year.
The 2008 Adult Conference will again be held at Northwest Christian Church from June 16-20. Officers are Marybeth Corbett, President, Pat Davis, Vice President, Bev Driver, Secretary, and Deb Bolen, Past President. Each year two new at large representatives are also chosen. New to the planning committee this year are Sally Lott and Dottie Johnson. Allen Harris and Diana Morris continue to serve for another year. Steve Bentley is serving this year as regional staff liaison. Our theme for 2008 will be Equipping the Body of Christ: Finding Unity in Diversity. The planning committee is currently working to secure leadership for the upcoming conference.
New for the coming year will be an Open Mike Night, a little different from the traditional Talent Night. The World Religions Forum Series will continue. Several other small changes are in the planning stages. The next meeting of the planning committee is scheduled for January 21, 2008 at Northwest Christian Church.
